Software Development Engineer - Test - Appium/Selenium (5-7 yrs)

Overview of The Role :

As a Senior SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) at Birdeye, you will play a crucial role in driving test automation, quality assurance, and ensuring the reliability of our web and mobile applications.

Reporting to the SDET Manager, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable test automation frameworks, along with manual and exploratory testing strategies to optimize product quality.

You will be working closely with software engineers, product managers, and DevOps teams to establish robust testing methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and best practices while mentoring junior SDETs.

A strong candidate will have deep technical expertise in automation, API testing, database validation, and large-scale test frameworks with experience in Selenium, RestAssured, TestNG, SQL/MongoDB, and cloud-based test environments.

Key Responsibilities :

Test Strategy & Execution :

- Define and implement end-to-end testing methodologies for web and mobile applications, including functional, regression, API, integration, performance, and security testing.

- Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts to validate application functionality and performance.

- Work closely with development and product teams to identify edge cases and develop robust test scenarios based on customer use cases and business requirements.

- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for critical defects and drive the resolution process with engineering teams.

Automation Development & Optimization :

- Develop, maintain, and enhance automation frameworks for UI (Selenium), API (RestAssured), and mobile applications (Appium).

- Design and implement scalable test automation architectures using industry best practices, ensuring high reusability and modularity.

- Drive the adoption of CI/CD automation strategies, integrating tests into Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar CI pipelines.

- Collaborate with DevOps engineers to optimize test execution, parallel testing, and cloud-based test environments.

API & Database Testing :

- Develop and execute automated API test scripts using RestAssured, Postman, or JMeter to validate RESTful web services.

- Perform database testing (SQL/MongoDB) to ensure data integrity and validate backend processes.

- Create SQL queries to perform data validation, indexing, and complex joins for backend testing.

Performance, Security & Reliability Testing :

- Execute load and performance testing using JMeter or similar tools to ensure application scalability.

- Conduct security testing to identify vulnerabilities and mitigate risks.

- Monitor test coverage and identify gaps to improve testing strategies and product reliability.

Defect Tracking & Process Improvement :

- Identify, track, and manage defects using tools like JIRA while working closely with development teams for resolution.

- Provide timely and actionable feedback on requirements, specifications, and design documents.

- Participate in code reviews to ensure testability and adherence to best practices.

Experience and Expertise :

- 4+ years of hands-on experience in test automation, software testing, and quality engineering.

- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and software testing

methodologies.

- Expertise in Selenium WebDriver, RestAssured, TestNG, Appium, and JUnit.

- Experience in manual and automation testing of web applications and RESTful APIs.

- Strong knowledge of SQL or MongoDB, able to write complex queries for validation.

- Experience in integrating test automation with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps).

- Strong debugging skills and ability to analyze test failures, logs, and performance issues.

- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
