As a part of our growth journey, we are looking to bring on board a seasoned Performance Test Lead who can take full ownership of performance testing initiatives, provide strategic direction, and ensure optimal performance of applications across platforms.
Role Overview :
The Performance Test Lead will be responsible for overseeing and executing all aspects of performance testing for enterprise-level applications and systems. The candidate must possess deep technical expertise in designing, scripting, and executing performance, load, and stress tests. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including developers, architects, project managers, and QA engineers to ensure systems meet required performance benchmarks before production deployment.
Key Responsibilities :
Performance Test Strategy & Planning :
- Lead the planning, creation, and execution of comprehensive performance testing strategies and test plans aligned with business requirements and project goals.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders to understand performance testing requirements including system architecture, business load models, and performance KPIs.
- Define appropriate testing approaches, tools, and frameworks for various performance scenarios like Load Testing, Stress Testing, Endurance Testing, and Spike Testing.
Tool Proficiency & Scripting :
- Design and develop modular, reusable, and maintainable performance test scripts using LoadRunner, JMeter, or similar performance testing tools.
- Automate performance test scenarios, including parameterization, correlation, and dynamic data injection, to simulate real-world usage patterns.
- Experience with integrations into CI/CD pipelines and test automation environments will be an added advantage.
Test Execution & Monitoring:
- Conduct performance tests across Web applications, APIs/web services (REST/SOAP), and backend systems (especially SQL Server and other database systems).
- Execute daily baseline performance tests (BVTs) to identify performance regressions early in the development lifecycle.
- Manage and configure test environments to ensure realistic and scalable test conditions.
Data Preparation & Management :
- Prepare and manage required test data sets for various performance testing scenarios including bulk data creation, anonymization, and migration.
- Ensure test data aligns with real-time scenarios and supports repeatable performance executions.
Monitoring, Analysis & Tuning :
- Monitor key performance metrics (CPU, memory, disk I/O, network throughput) during test execution using tools such as Dynatrace, AppDynamics, New Relic, or equivalent.
- Analyze performance bottlenecks across the technology stack and provide recommendations for performance tuning and optimization.
- Work in tandem with development and DevOps teams to resolve performance issues and validate fixes.
Reporting & Defect Management :
- Document detailed test results, trends, and performance analysis findings.
- Prepare performance test summary reports and present them to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Log, track, and manage defects in test management tools such as JIRA or TestRail, and coordinate defect resolution with relevant teams.
Risk Identification & Mitigation :
- Proactively identify performance risks and suggest mitigation strategies.
- Evaluate the scalability, reliability, and responsiveness of applications under varying workloads and recommend enhancements as needed.
Leadership & Mentoring :
- Lead and mentor a team of performance test engineers, providing guidance on technical challenges and career development.
- Promote performance engineering best practices and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the QA team.
Communication & Stakeholder Management:
- Act as a liaison between QA, development, business, and infrastructure teams.
- Provide timely updates to project managers and QA leads regarding test progress, risks, and mitigation plans.
Key Skills & Experience :
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in performance testing and engineering.
- Strong proficiency in LoadRunner, JMeter, NeoLoad, or similar tools.
- Deep understanding of web technologies, API performance testing, and database performance tuning.
- Experience working with SQL Server, Oracle, or NoSQL databases to identify slow queries and performance issues.
- Proficient in scripting languages like JavaScript, Python, or Shell scripting is a plus.
- Familiarity with cloud-based performance testing (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) is highly desirable.
- Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Education & Certifications :
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Certifications in performance testing tools (e.g., LoadRunner Certified Professional) or performance engineering (e.g., CPDE Certified Performance & DevOps Engineer) are advantageous.
