Nurse - Casualty / ER

An ER Nurse, or Emergency Nurse, is in charge of providing healthcare to patients who urgently need treatment so that they can stabilize their vital signs and limit pain and discomfort. Their duties include identifying the needs of a patient, filling out charts and intake paper and collecting information and samples quickly to run necessary tests.

An ER Nurse duties and responsibilities are focused on giving timely care to their patients and in a fast-paced environment.

ER Nurse have the responsibilities of:

• Triage incoming patients based on level of injury or illness.
• Immediately stabilize incoming patients.
• Administer medication as instructed by physicians.
• Start intravenous lines, and assist on broken bones.
• Perform tracheotomies and intubations.
• Give patients stitches and sutures.
• Create and maintain incoming patient records.
• Work with team of emergency staff to help patients.
• Help transfer stable patients to necessary Wings as advised by Consultants.

Required Candidate Profile:

• Should have completed Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery / Bachelor of Science - Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc Nursing.
• Current Nursing License, in good standing with the State Licensing Board [Karnataka Nursing Council].

Desired Experience and Skills:

• Minimum of 1 to 12 years of relevant experience in Emergency / Casualty.
• Compassionate personality, soft spoken and always willing to help others.
• Good listener and with a bilingual ability (Kannada, English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Coorgi / Kodavatak, Malayalam).
• Knowledge of emergency hospital procedures, critical care unit infection control and hygiene policies.
• Hands-on experience in caring patients at ER and Triaging.
• Proven ability to multitask and work calmly but efficiently in sensitive environment of Emergency / Casualty department.

Key Competencies:

• Patient condition monitoring, CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), wound care, suturing procedure, patient transport and other activities related to forensic nursing.
• Advanced life support, oxygenation and ventilation management.
• CCU/ICU standard nursing procedures.
• Basic life support.
• Intravenous therapy implementation.
• Triaging.
• Stepdown.
• Care of drains/tubes.
• Transport and set-up.
• Pain management.
• Collaboration.
