Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Scientist – Professional Hair Colors with 4 to 6 years of hands-on experience in the formulation and development of hair coloring products. The selected candidate will lead the formulation of Permanent and Semi-Permanent Hair Colors, Funky Hair Shades, Developers, Bleaching Powders, and Blonders. This role involves scientific research, formulation development, performance testing, and regulatory compliance.  

This position is ideal for candidates from reputed hair color manufacturing companies who bring a combination of technical expertise, creativity, regulatory awareness, and product sensorial understanding.  

Key Responsibilities

Formulation & Product Development 

• Develop innovative and sustainable formulations for permanent, semi-permanent, and fashion/funky hair colors from concept to commercialization.

• Create and optimize developers, oxidizing creams, bleaching powders, blonders, and related auxiliaries. 

• Select and validate suitable dyes, pigments, emulsifiers, conditioning agents, and delivery systems

Scientific Research & Innovation 

• Generate, test, and validate scientific hypotheses to understand hair-fiber interaction, color deposition, damage mechanisms, and longevity of results. 

• Investigate new raw materials, formulation technologies, and emerging trends in professional hair color science.

• Translate research into consumer-relevant product benefits, including color intensity, fade resistance, gray coverage, scalp safety, and hair conditioning.  

Evaluation & Testing

• Conduct performance testing (color chart development, swatch testing, on-hair evaluation, etc.) and monitor product stability under deferent conditions.  

• Develop and standardize in-vitro and in-vivo test methods for color strength, hold, fade, damage, and cuticle condition. 

• Interface with internal or third-party laboratories for dermatological, microbial, safety, and compatibility testing. 

Documentation & Quality Compliance 

• Maintain detailed and traceable formulation documents, SOPs, BOMs, BMRs, and stability data records. 

• Ensure full compliance with Indian and international regulatory standards (BIS, EU, FDA, etc.). 

• Prepare and review technical dossiers, claim substantiation, and product safety assessments.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Work

• Work closely with packaging, regulatory, QA, and marketing teams to ensure smooth development and launch processes.  

• Communicate project updates and technical findings eƯectively with senior leadership and international collaborators.

Intellectual Property & Knowledge Management

• Monitor patents and scientific literature to identify novel technologies, competitive innovations, and white-space opportunities.

• Support the filing of in-house patents and safeguard proprietary technologies.

Candidate Profile 

Education

• B.Tech / M.Tech in Cosmetic Technology / Chemical Engineering / Chemistry

• Candidates with specialization or certifications in Hair Cosmetic Sciences will be preferred 

Experience

• 4 to 6 years of relevant R&D experience exclusively in professional hair color development 

• Proven track record in hair dye chemistry, oxidative and direct dye systems, and formulation scale-up 

Technical Knowledge

• Excellent understanding of hair fiber science, pH and dye interaction, bleach and peroxide chemistry 

• Proficiency in viscosity control, emulsification, stability protocols, fragrance compatibility, and color chart development

• Experience with laboratory instruments such as spectrophotometers, viscometers, centrifuges, and pH meters
