Sterlite Copper is the Copper Business Unit of Vedanta Limited operates a 400,000 Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) Copper Smelter with associated facilities such as Refinery and Copper Rod Plant, Sulphuric Acid plant of 12,00,000 MTPA and Phosphoric Acid of 220,000 MTPA at Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. We also operate a 160 MW coal based power plant in Thoothkudi, Tamil Nadu. We have two units in Silvassa in the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli where it operates two Copper Rods Plants (one in Chincpada and another in Piparia). We have received the ‘Manufacturing Supply Chain Awards’ for the year 2018 under the category 'Excellence in Manufacturing Supply Chain – Heavy Engineering at the 7th Manufacturing Supply Chain Summit, 2018. We are accredited with "Five Star"​ rating by British Safety Council wherein, we are the fourth lowest in energy consumption across copper smelters worldwide. Our GHG emission has been reporting through Carbon Disclosure Project for 6 consecutive years. We also acclaimed significant achievement in HR Excellence at the 7th CII HR Excellence Award Confluence 2016 - 17 by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). With a vision of becoming the world's most admired copper producer, we work towards supporting our Nation’s industrial growth by primarily focusing on Strong Governance and Compliance, Environment, Safety and Health, Talent Pool and Technology, CSR and Community Relations, Responsible Corporate Citizen, Sustainable and Continued Operations with lowest energy, water & natural resources consumption and Recycle, Reuse & sustainable disposal of solid wastes. Each year, we reach out to around 2.5 Lakh people in and around thoothukudi for Community Initiatives within 8 different areas which includes Education, Health, Child Care, Women Empowerment, Infrastructure, Livelihood, Agriculture & Animal Husbandry and Employee Volunteerism.
