4 months after layoff no job till now[Need Advice]
Experience
- 6 months internship + 6 months full time (Backend dev)
[well known fintech company]
- Have a 90+ ATS resume score.
- Solved 600+ LeetCode questions.
- Hold a cloud certification.
- Knowledgeable in HLD/LLD.
- Have good project
I’ve been reaching out to 50+ people daily for referrals and applying to 10–15 jobs every day
It’s been over 100 days, yet I haven’t received a single interview or coding round—mainly due to my limited experience
Any advice? I’ve considered open source, but most "help wanted" issues are either outdated or already done. Just adding documentation doesn't feel valuable unless I’ve used the application enough to suggest real improvements
I’m giving myself one more month. If nothing works,I thought of quiting the corporate path and focus on competitive exams
Not to brag, but I have strong aptitude skills and have achived recommedable rank in national/international coding comp, had top percentile in MHTCET
The only path i can think of rn.

For freshers or experience less than 2 years, market is seriously bad. Till you gain 2-3 years experience, don't go for money. Be open to all locations and go for any job even if you get minimum salary. Keep your skills intact, and upskill yourself on how to write scalable production grade code.
Believe me, I was one of the dumbest student, completed electrical engineering in 7 years from tier 3 city. Then left banking job in 6 months and then I was jobless for 7 years. I learnt software development without the goal of getting job or money. Was doing freelancing at cheapest rate possible, then got job as content writer in a digital marketing company. But using my coding skills, I automated their tasks, created some solutions and sold to their clients but took only 17k rs in 2.5 years. Lunch and learning courses was free from them and exposure to cloud technologies too, so I was okay. I did freelancing and other part time jobs in parallel. They also gave me access to all learning resources so I used it. Once I got 2.5 years experience, I moved out of my hometown to Chennai to work in a startup only for 2.6 lakh. Then after a year I got job in service based for a very big client with package of 9.6 lakh, worked there for more than a year. Then switched to big 4 with a package of 16.5, kept working hard and promoted. When I left, I had 22 lpa package, worked there for 3 years. Now in a big product company with 45 lpa, still learning as job is not secured now.
I don't have knowledge like you when I started. I learnt while working... But you are genius. So if a dumb person like me can grow, you will also grow for sure. Just stay motivated and keep learning... Your time will come. You just need 2-2.5 yrs exp. Get it from anywhere, and use your skills there by building some solutions, and mention in resume. After that doors will definitely open. I wish it won't take much time. But if the gap will increase it will become difficult as competition now is tough than what it was 7 years ago. So first priority is get a job. If job is relevant then best,if not then try my way. Otherwise start your own business. Be open to anything for first few years.

Thanks for consolidating, man. But reality hits differently when your career depends on hope, not certainty or skills.
I think I could make better use of my time elsewhere.
At least that government exam will give me a chance to compete.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I’m done applying for jobs.

Stay strong! Sometimes it’s just market timing. You have an excellent profile maybe consider contract roles or startups too?

Dear, It's been more than 6 months to me. I lost my job during a layoff in the name of restructuring and cost cutting at my last employer. It sometime we are focusing on searching a job and loosing our skill sets on daily basis as days pass. I personally broke multiple times as not getting jobs or if selected not getting an offer-letter. I've decided to also keep practicing of the technologies and skills as a distraction. It will not just keep you updated but will boost your confident. Yes, it's easy to say and hard to follow. I am 11 years of experience holder in frontend development, struggling to get new employer yet have believe to get one soon. On other end, for the portals now there are some cheat-codes available on YouTube & Instagram etc. you may follow them to get your profile up, as competition increasing by day it's hard to list your self in top 50. I've seen 4000+ application for a single role. It can give you an idea that how many are searching at same time, and it's hard for HRs to pick random. My recommendation would be try to apply early and set your filters on each job portals accordingly to get quick notifications. One more thing, don't switch job so quickly until you complete your minimum 2-3 years. Try to join startups to learn more.
