Are McKinsey, EY & Other Big 4 really worth it?

We all know the hype around working in BIG 4 and other big MnCs. It is considered as a huge achievement in our Indian Society. But I have also heard that the work culture in these companies is really toxic. Especially after recent suicide cases of employees in McKinsey and EY. I strongly doubt if one should really aspire to work in these companies. Anyone here working in these firms who can confirm about the work culture there?

few of my friends work in EY and 1 in Deloitte long hours and high expectations is something they always discuss when we meet its just a tag of big4 given by the community/. It ultimately depends on the team, department, and your ability to manage work-life balance. I think we must treat them like companies , do your work, get your pay and move on. Toxic culture is everywhere in every company just tries to hide it

been at EY for 2 years. Not toxic per se, but definitely high pressure. You need to set boundaries early or it gets messy

Work in a Big 4 for 2-3 years max if you are a fresher and switch to industry for a better work life balance. I did the same working well as of now

honestly the hype around big 4 is overrated. Long hours, constant pressure and poor work life balance... it is definitely not worth the mental toll for many

Very low level and low quality work is there as far as technical work is considered. I don't have idea about risk and advisory, audit, tax etc... but I guess because of these only they are called as big 4. Otherwise those who work on IT/software side know how low quality projects are there. But 1 thing is sure - because of their reputation which they got from their work in audit and tax or risk and advisory units , they easily get big clients compared to other service based companies, but as I said they don't have technically sound people, nor the structure to give good learning and opportunity to technical folks, nor the project quality is good. So for technical folks, worst experience it will be. For non technical or managerial folks, it will be great experience.

Worked in McKinsey for 1.5 yrs. Amazing exposure, but I left to protect my mental health. Not for everyone. Choose wisely.

not everyone has a bad experience. I know people thriving at Deloitte & EY. But yes support systems & teams make all the difference.
