Got Rejected In an Interview, Just Because I Didn’t Answer a Personal Question
So, I got invited for this interview, and they told me to be there at 9 AM. Of course, I get there early, like 8:30, because I don't want to be late. But then I end up waiting for 1.5 hours. Seriously, they didn't even acknowledge me until 10.
Then this HR lady calls me in, and she's totally unprofessional. She's like, on her phone, making personal calls while I'm sitting right there. And then she starts asking me these really weird questions, like what my nickname is, and what my dad does for a living.
It got really uncomfortable when she started pressing for details about where my dad works. I mean, what does that have to do with anything? So I politely told her I didn't want to answer, and she actually said, "Then we can't continue this interview."
I was honestly shocked. But instead of arguing, I just stood up and said, “Alright then.” And walked out.
I left feeling pissed. Not only did they waste an hour of my time, but the HR rep was also rude and unprofessional..

An hour late and made two calls while you are waiting? Typical of HR people. Broken and lording over others.

I feel like this was an intentional part of the interview.

I once didn't take an interview because the recruiter twice emailed me to set up an interview and then ghosted for a week. When he was 10 minutes late calling I said f...that.

At 30 minutes I'd get the interviewers name, walk around until I find thier office, and interupt whatever they are doing. It's called taking intitiative and owning the job! Being a pro-active problem solver!

This is highly unprofessional. Why the hell does his father's job matter to anyone?
I have never heard of a question like that.

Your first mistake was staying an hour. I would have walked out at 15 minutes past if no one is communicating or apologizing for the delay. Your second mistake was staying during those two phone calls. They saw you as a potential employee to be used up.
We need to start normalizing leaving interviews on our terms not theirs.

I normally don't wait over half an hour of the scheduled time if no one answers or apologizes. If the company cannot even accommodate you now, they will certainly not do you much good later.
