Interview Tips & Stories

I Said, I Love Excel in an Interview and Regretted It Instantly
So in one of my interviews, the manager asked, What’s a tool you’re really comfortable with? Without thinking much, I said, I love using Excel.
Biggest mistake of my life! What followed was 20 minutes of non-stop Excel questions. Nested formulas, pivot tables, macros, stuff I’d only touched once during appraisal time. I was internally screaming but still nodding like I totally had it under control. Managed to bluff through most of it with confidence and some (I’d approach it like this) lines.
Lesson learned: never confess your “love” for a tool unless you’re ready to marry it in the interview. Be real, but don’t oversell. They’ll test exactly what you claim.

Honestly, I wish more candidates were like you. at least you TRIED. Most people say random tools from their resume and then panic when asked the basics
