Nailed the interview, still rejected

Just had the BEST interview ever – super positive and encouraging! But got rejected. Interviewer said I was the most prepared, knew it was a full-time role (unlike others), and loved my answers. One of my questions was even called "the best ever asked!" He showed me around, said I was exactly what they wanted, and would get back by Friday. I was so hyped! Then today, I got the rejection email. No reason given, just "went with someone else." Feels bad when your best isn't enough. Anyone else been there? How'd you cope?

[awesomesnail](username) was JUST talking to my roommate about this!! It always seems to go that way… maybe there’s something to it. seeming more human, relatable or maybe coming off as “you need me more than I need you” could be the advantage.

[siryy](username) the role I interviewed for was an operations associate position. It was a mix of backend coordination, cross functional support, and a bit of client communication too. Think of it like being the person who keeps things running smoothly in the background handling processes, making sure deliverables are on track, supporting internal teams, and just making life easier for everyone involved. That’s actually something I enjoy. I love solving chaos, organizing workflows, and making systems better wherever I go. On top of that, I also have hands-on experience in digital marketing campaign handling, content calendars, a bit of paid ads and analytics. So I was hoping I could bring that combo of ops plus marketing know how to the table and maybe be a bit of a hybrid support.

What are the rounds now? Is GD will be there? There's no assessment?

[wondrouspine](username) It depends. some companies have stopped gd, especially post covid, but others still use it to shortlist candidates quickly.

I can relate to myself. Recently happened to me too. There I thought that the interviewer was of the same age and may be the possibility that I'm more knowledgeable than him. So he might be having his job security issues in future.

I remember giving telephonic interview for Accenture HR associate role it was fantastic the recruiter even explained me about the versant and the final hr round I was prepared for both of them my versant test went fine I wasn't sure I'll get selected or not but then fortunately i recieved the call from a different recruiter he was saying that today itself you've to give the interview by 5pm unfortunately I had plans for that day, i told her that I won't be available and requested to reschedule it he was like okay I'll reschedule it for you. I tried calling him for the feedback continuously for 2 days straight and 3rd day i recieved a rejection mail🙂. I mean i explained my situation to the recruiter and he was very understanding he assured me that he'll rearrange the interview some other day but still,

[sriracha](username) this says nothing about your potential. If anything, it shows u r professional, you communicate well, and you don’t just flake. That matters. So take the lesson, not the blame.

Start a fight club. On a serious note, hang in there. The same has happened with a lot of us. Sometimes, i wonder if someone is mixing up our files..

You WERE the best candidate...until someone else came who was better. That doesn't make you a bad person or even an unqualified candidate. It just means that someone else likely checked more boxes in the qualifications section. or, maybe the hiring manager felt like they clicked with someone else and felt a strong connection. my best advice is to shake it off and keep pushing forward.

Same thing happened with me too additionally two HR’s were playing saying that other one will share details with you shortly… After a great interview they didn’t even had courage to share some updates.

@impressivecosm Unfortunately, it's pretty common now. Why do they even take interviews in the first place?
Same happened with me... Gave best and cleared 1 hr screening and 3 technical rounds... But got rejected...

Interviews nowadays are more like a deal going on, a city match? ✅ Age match? ✅ Package within budget? ✅ Congratulations, you are selected without talent!

[greatcauliflower](username) seriouslyyyyyy the person who actually knew their stuff, who prepped, who brought in passion and ideas gets ghosted or rejected with a generic "we've moved ahead." Like … why even have interviews if talent isn’t the main criteria?

Exact same thing happened to me couple days ago too. Fiance and I were talking about it a lot, thinking how nice it’d be with the job being remote and much higher pay. Especially we got a wedding soon too so definitely could use the pay. Then comes the rejection email after 3 interviews, which I thought all went great. At least they were kind enough to schedule a quick meeting for feedback but it sucks so much after you fantasize about getting the job. In the end, you never know until you get an offer but still hurts and cant help but get your hopes high. And… I still think I would have been the perfect candidate for this job and f them for not hiring me lol
