Why Are So Many Managers Afraid of Saying ‘Good Job’?

Not even asking for a promotion or raise , just a basic compliment. Did a hellish product launch. Pulled late nights. Client was thrilled. Manager’s only comment: “Cool, let’s prep for next sprint.” Why is it so hard to get acknowledged at work? A “well done” costs nothing. A “this helped us a lot” takes 5 seconds. Sometimes I think they worry we’ll start expecting more if they say anything nice. But honestly? We already do more. Some recognition might just make us want to stay. Anyone else feel this way or have managers who actually appreciate your work out loud?

I believe it completely depends on how good/bad your manager's relationship with his boss is.

Makes me think do some people genuinely not know how to give praise? Like it’s never been modeled for them?

Can totally relate. Do you think this is more common in startups or corporate setups?

Honestly, if my manager said ‘Good job’, I might just faint from shock. Waiting for that one day when it actually happens.

Same yaar! ‘Cool, let’s prep for the next sprint’ toh bas normal ho gaya hai. Acknowledgment ke bina kaafi time feel hota hai, bas thoda sa appreciation mil jaaye toh life set ho jati hai
