Why's salary still treated like a taboo?

We work 50+ hrs a week for money, yet the one thing we don’t talk about openly is… salary. Someone once told me, “If you talk about pay, HR will think you're difficult.” But shouldn't knowing your worth be basic, not rebellious? It’s weird, companies want transparency from candidates, but won’t return the favour. Ask a simple “What’s the budget for this role?” and suddenly everyone’s “still finalising”. Bhai, finalise toh tabhi karo jab we’ve finalised expectations too?

Bhai agar CTC 10LPA(including 5% variable pay) hai toh in-hand kitna milega? Koi bata sakta hai??? Employer PF contribution 1800 hai per month...bas itna pata hai......help.

I have 2 offers 1. 12 LPA fixed with pickup/drop, free food (lunch, breakfast) 2. 12 LPA ( 10% variable, 10.9 fixed) with pickup/drop, no free food, i said to this hr for 13.2 LPA, hr like ye kya mang liya after spending so much time. Still in negotiation....
