Work life balance is quite cool. You may be asked to come few Saturdays but not hectic. Workload for a week equated roughly to two days workload in an Indian consulting firm.

Dislikes

Almost everything. It is an Indian Tamil family business where couples from same family circle are automatically partners/principals/directors. Partners dont have subject matter expertise. If they show a salary of 50,000 you may get 17000 in hand - you will never come across such CTC calculations. They are only concerned with clocking, even at managerial levels and above. They will not pay bonus to anyone else but will share grand year end proceeds among family members. When it comes to international training/conferences/seminars, instead of sending managerial level people, the leadership team (actually the family) will go. Doubles up as a family vacation when those places are in Europe or some other exotic location. If you are an expatriate, avoid this company like plague. You are better off jobless in India or in your own country. This company in Botswana is not Grant Thornton as I have had the opportunity to meet with some Grant Thornton executives and partners from India and from the UK - they were professional and on the money. This is a family run business that was called Acumen - they are just using the GT badge to fund their families.

Work

Managerial position - main activities included clocking in (morning), listening to a partner talk all day without understanding what he wanted to say and clocking out (evening)

I am being offered by my Reporting Authority the role to involve more in the core work instead of being working as an Executive assistant. The Partner mentors me to gain more knowledge. It completely depends on whom you are working for. All Partners have different strategy towards their work so is their expectation. There is POSH policy which gives women the liberty to complain for sexual harassment at work. Working post 8pm is discouraged at Grant Thornton.

Dislikes

The management keeps on changing the Operation Leader frequently, new leader changes the implemented rule and it becomes tough for employees to cope up. Those who are working into Operations are not allowed for flexible timings. Seating at the Pantry area for more than 10mins is noticeable and the employee gets warning these days. The Appraisal amount varies a lot. The personal favourites in any department gets promotions, rest all deals from 5 to 7 percent. For EAs Grant Thornton is not at all a good place to work. They might hire you to assist one person, later will let you know that you have to work for two more in the same salary.

Culture has changed a lot and is not like it was 2 years back. Lot of bias towards pets and favourites of Partners and Directors. Unlike claimed, no standard policy for career progression and salary is way below industry standards. You are expected to work late nights and weekends but the increments and bonuses are in the range of 5% to 10%. Only Pets get 15% max. Training is nil, if forced managers would do a basic training for name sake. Knowledge sharing is not encouraged and is excused off most of the time so new joiners struggle a lot and get into bootlicking culture. Too much politics by the Director and Managers.

No transport, Pathetic pantry, no trainings.

Grant Thornton was employee friendly when they was in development state , now after gaining client, GT Management are very cheap, the tea are not served properly as there is limited budget for tea, washroom are not proper due to lack of allocation for washroom, there is no annual picnic, for monthly birthday celebration they keep vada pav and 200 ml beverage, for no valid reason they hold salary, forfeit salary, etc

Dislikes

very cheap management and very less allocation of fund for staff welfare

It's a place for people seeking work life balance.
Good IT support.

Dislikes

Worst part is politics at senior level. They try to divide and rule. There is no clarity on goals and communication in their definition is one way.
Quality of deliverable is their priority only till the time you do it in your personal time.

Work

Boring
Lack of recognition and support for aggressive and ambitious people.

They pay way below industry standards. There are no decent projects. The Firm is run by people who have been there for a decade or so. Most of the hires are because they are referred by some "big fish" in the small pond and not because of pedigree or competency. Not a good place for people with decent pedigree. You will have nothing to learn from - not your peers, not the projects, not the leadership!

Its like you are working in your own family with seniors behaving like elders always guiding everyone to come-up with excellent performance. All seniors are easily approachable and also reach out at times of need for driving better results.

Dislikes

Industry specific technological certification and their trainings should be sponsored and emphasised.

The firm provides various opportunities for learning and developing skill sets of employees. We also have an open door policy where suggestions from every one matters to the firm.

Dislikes

Although the firm promises flexibility in work exposure and a flat hirarchy, they have yet to bridge many gaps between their commitments and ground reality.
