Welcome to the Packt, things start smoothly over here as you are in the training period it's your honeymoon period over here. As you get used to the work culture, you will be exploited totally on bases of promotion, to be precise then it's just 15% hike.
You will find the best environment over here and flex timing, here most of the crowd is of youngster ranging from 22 to 26 for this role.
If you looking ahead for studies this is the best place to work, as here you won't be able to develop your skills, as you will be working on the same task every day

Dislikes

It depends on the experience, let's make it simpler by explaining most of the issues that are been faced by the executive:
1) Salary not up to the mark
2) If you get used to the surrounding it will be difficult to move on
3) It's a dating place, I'm serious you will find many instances as its full of enthusiastic and young people
4) If you move out of this role, It's quite difficult to find a job
5) Growth not up to the mark, until you get involved yourself in to dirty politics

Work

I've been doing great, I have not faced that many issues. As been tenured it pays me back by a good amount of WFH and other leverage.

- Good colleagues to work with.
- Receiving bonus every 6 months is the best thing.
- Also the flexible working hour is a plus point.

Dislikes

- Low to almost NO salary hike.
- Only 1 - 2% yearly salary growth is provided for COL (cost of living).
- Sometimes I have to work for additional hours and the efforts are not taken into consideration.
- NEVER apply for any job role into production category (ie. Layout Coordinator, Graphics Coordinator, Indexer), you will have to work like donkeys. NO SMART WORK, WORKING HARD FOR SIMPLEST THINGS JUST BECAUSE OF THE TOP TEAM !
- Manager does not value unique strengths, so had less growth opportunities.
- Too much of favoritism and partiality.

Work

Working at Packt was initially fun until Manager started doing favoritism. Only thing that motivates me to work in Packt is work from home facility and weekend offs.

The only advantage working at Packt is flexi working hours, self learning and opportunity to work with skilled external entities like authors , tech reviewers etc.

Dislikes

There are no career or growth prospects for experienced professionals. Meager pay and unskilled Managers who have never worked with any IT company (including the senior management). Ironically the company neither uses any IT tools for research nor employs skilled IT professionals despite being a knowledge solution provider for the IT industry. That is another reason why managers at any level do not welcome innovative ideas to help improve systems or self learning systems.

Work

It is said that people work for people in any organization. The attrition rate is quite high which validates the above fact because there are no such managers at any level who can provide sensible guidance to executives. Earns you enough to pay bills !

Nothing encouraging about working in Packt

Dislikes

The work ambience is pathetic. It's full of politics and they dislike if you don't participate in their politics. The leaders have no clue of how to get the work done. Employees do not justify the salary paid to them. The HR team is pathetic and full of politics, people don't trust them. No job security, general managers and senior managers are asked to leave without any justification. Avoid joining this company. Guys workings as publishers and above have no clue of how to get the work done. They gang up against you and HR is not supportive.

Work

You are not given an opportunity to work freely, you are expected to obey the instructions given. People gang up against you if you are not in their good books.

Packt follows a open culture, where you have freedom to work independetely, you can take decision of your own. But few top team and team leaders has spoiled the culture of office environment. HR (Business Partners) could not take a right decision and the leaders are taking advantage of this mismanagement.

Dislikes

There is no growth plan in the company, nor any Job security, few team needs to work 12 to 14 hours in a day. No appreciation from Managers.

They have stopped appraisal and started COL., which is most dissatisfaction amongs the employee.

As far as Learning concerns, you will get good opportunity to learn more skills. thats the only one parameters which I liked very much in the company.

Flexible working & work from home is a boon however misused by almost all employees

Dislikes

Almost every function is a problem. The main culprits are Abhishek Shirodkar & Dipali Chittar apart from the management team based out of UK. The company does not have a leader & deals in office politics in every aspect of work. They do not welcome experienced people joining them & gang-up in teams to get the person out without any valid reason. Please stay away from the company.

Packt Publishing is a wonderful company for freshers. It's a good bridge from college life to work life, as it eases you into it. The positives are:

Fexible shift timing
Casual dress code
Chilled-out work culture
Faster promotions

Dislikes

Constant changes in processes, team structure, etc. stability is less
Growth is limited for individual contributors

Opportunities to excel if you have the potential and skill set.

Dislikes

There is no job security, you will get opportunities but at one point if the management feels that there is no requirement of your position, restructuring is required or you are getting too much compensation then they can make you resign. I have seen such cases.

The best thing is the work culture of the company and flexible timing. And if you are fortunate then the the best team members and colleagues to work with to help and motivate you in the company.

Dislikes

There is no job security anytime anyone can leave or be removed. The growth of salary and career is quite slow which can be worked on.
