I had worked in Saint Gobain (Formerly: Carborundum Universal) at Palakkad, Kerala, Plant for 30 years. Worked in different fields. Joined as Typist and retired as Grade II Staff. Worked in Admin dept from 1980 till 2002. Then shifted to Marketing till retirement.
The main Nightmare in the company is: Policy Deployment. The overall result of hard works of subordinates is the benefit for the dept head. My boss in marketing was a Hitler like man he did not like me. I scored best result from my area of India South and Western areas.. But the mark given to me is between D & E (E is for exit). Consequently I was getting the same for 4 years and at certain point I was asked to quit the job by my Hitler boss. The then MD did not allow me to quit and he gave me another opportunity to continue. Will you agree... for my 30 years of service, I got a gratuity of only Rs.4 lakhs including PF??? While other colleagues got more than ten lakhs...???
The main draw back : Appraisal is not reviewed by the main Plant Head or Corporate Heads.. What the respective dept head decides is final. This is a very poor system. When a dept head has vengeance on his subordinates, he refuses to accept what all supporting documents produced to prove about the year's results and decides marks on his own.
Nobody is there to know the grievances of each department. The dept head may be a culprit with poor quality and he tortures his subordinates. But subordinate has to cry himself and nobody from higher side is there to hear his grievances.
For example: My boss made me to clean his spit (pan parag) and I did it and my hands became red. Again during a international market meet took place in Kochi, I was beaten by my boss several times before the other colleagues.
What all I have written are true upon God. I am now 65, struggling to run the family. My wife is a heart patient. I am struggling with my two daughters. I have a debt of 8 lakhs .. Who will help me to survive further?
