The best part of working in SAP Labs is the exposure one gets to the customer side. Writing software that customers use and solving their issues while they are about to go live, it's a thrilling experience. Moreover there are many perks for individuals of different tastes like Work From Home, Free food and transport, good work life balance to name a few. Learning wise if one is devoted to SAP technology like ABAP, SAP Hana, there are plenty of options to self update and participate in innovation challenges within SAP Labs to get recognition.

Dislikes

The disadvantage is not all teams are alike, some are bustling with energy for innovation and some are just existing to support some legacy software. If you happen to be in a legacy support project, your work life balance might differ. It might include working with difficult old code that is both obscure and tedious to make sense, and deliverables are expected on time. The management is a mixed bag and so are the seniors. There are extremely competent people who are willing to help you ( I am lucky to have worked with them ) and at the same time there are people of the opposite type. Overall your project matters a lot in SAP Labs, towards your overall job satisfaction.

Work

I worked as an ABAP developer on S4 Hana Architecture for a product. My work included working in BOBF framework and creating and supporting a backend with occasional digressions with CDS. I have worked on creating test frameworks for CDS and BOBF.

The work culture at SAP can be ranked as one of the best in the industry. Employees are treated as individuals and not resources. Employees are given a lot of freedom in terms of flexible working hours and ownership of what they do.Apart from this, you gets hands on opportunity to work on ssveral technologies and modules. The work one does seldom becomes monotonous and more often than not you end up doing something different everyday. Even though there's a hierarchy system on paper, there's no tangible boundary that separtes employees. Everyone's willing to help you at difficult times and there's hardly any internal politics. Long story short, SAP is unique in the way it handles its employees.

Dislikes

There's a fine treading line between freedom and negligence, but some people end up equating the two. Sometimes you find yourself doing a lot of work which you were not supposed to do. As a result, more often than not, you find one or two people bearing the entire burden of the team. In addition, life sometimes becomes quite laid back. Even though, you are willing to do a lot, there's hardly anything substantial for you to contribute. I had to do a lot of soul searching to come up with these two points. Jeez, it's difficult to find points that you dislike about SAP.

Some policies which no other organization can offer exist here. Some common policies across the industry don't exist here. Somehow SAP makes it to "Best Companies" to work for.

Dislikes

Work timing is flexible, everyone likes it but it really kills all your work-life balance.
Frequent Org Changes will weigh you down, newer 'Management' brings in new tools and useless strategies without focus on competing in the marketplace.
SuccessFactors, as the name says sucks us through various factors. Culture is horribly wrong in this side of SAP.
The Bangalore office is simply a back office since the most recent Org shuffle. 0 Innovation. 0 Involvement in anything.
Some of the managers are absolutely rubbish, no idea what they are talking about but will sit on you and push you down. These managers have the habit of 'bring your ex-colleagues' to SAP/SuccessFactors and running their show thereon.
Some of the Admin, Facilities & Support departments are impossible to understand and work with. Free Food and Transport is boasted about like anything but its painful to eat and use on a daily basis.

Little politics here and there. But its manageable

Work

Generally speaking i love my work and the role i am into. I have to do end to end testing. Also it also provides me opportunities to explore and learn different technologies. I found the amazing work culture. Lot of co-operation between the team mates.

The work culture was excellent ,facilities were second to none. The profile required use of skills acquired and scope of knowledge enhanced each day. Enough exposure was given by deploying in different projects( BIZX, LMS, jobs2web).Every employee was given freedom to come up with new ideas which were implemented in solving critical problems. The Release process allowed me to excersice my potential completely while striking a good work life balance. The co followed a standard procedure for appraisal and salary hike was given post completion of 1 yr.

Work life balance,
Perks and benefits,
Less work pressure,
Decent hikes,
Free SAP certifications,
Perfect company for those who now want to settle down and no more want to slog for growth, the growth will be decent (10%) even if you are anaverage performer.

Dislikes

Monotonous work, not good for freshers since they will not get much exposure to different areas of SAP and will be working in a single domain for years, if you are a person who likes to learn new things always, the company may disappoint you a bit,
Also the work which is done here is different than work done in service companies hence you may find it difficult to switch to service companies if you are not learning new things on your own.

I was contract employee at SAP labs for a period of 2 years. Working at SAP is a brand and good reputation. Company culture is good and its support to their employees. It provides good package and flexible work timings.

Dislikes

Since i was working on contract basis employee for a period of 2 years and i have not get a chance to continue in same team and other teams. so, i would say job security at SAP labs is very poor for contract employees.

Work

I was part of SAP Partner enabliment team. i was coordinating and execution of SAP Partner test workshops and it is difficulties for me to get similar roll in other companies after left SAP.

The team at Pune works on core database products.
It is one of the few places where you get core database internals development.
The work life balance is awesome.

Dislikes

The compensation is poor compared to industry standards.
There is a lot of politics in atleast Pune organisation and the favorites of the team management get the chance to grow.
The growth is proportional to seniority not to the work done by the one.
They dont like you leaving the organisation. The management puts "Not fit to be rehired" mark against you.

Work

Work is good and engaging.

The atmosphere is apt for innovation . If you are keen in working in innovation and continuous improvement of overall processes using automation techniques SAP is the place for you.

Dislikes

Vertical growth is a problem , moving from one band to another is very difficult in SAP . No on-site opportunities. And if you are not working on campus then you will not enjoy work culture in othe sap locations

Sap is not for IT domain employees. Manager from ITOC department is pathetic. Never allow any one to grow. But SAP labs is one of the best organization. Work culture in Sap is very good.

Dislikes

Behavior of ITOC department manager. If some one contact higher management without his knowledge, then employee days will become hell. And never allow any one to grow.
