No Salary Discussion in My Appraisal — What’s Your Experience?
In my appraisal meeting, they didn’t ask or discuss my expectations about my salary or hike percentage. The entire discussion was only about feedback and performance review. After the meeting, I asked why they didn’t allow me to share my expectations or reveal my hike numbers. They told me that the hike numbers would be decided only by the owner and then they would inform me. I feel an appraisal meeting should include open discussion about both performance and future expectations. What are your thoughts? Does this happen in your company too?

...cial control, spending not in line with needs and situation of the organization. Enormous cost spent on facilitating uncessary business class travel, lavish corporate townhalls and spending while not giving any pay raise to employees. The companys stock is already delisted due to accounting fraud. 3. Poor business logic in decision making, driven likely by culture of exloiting corporate funds on expense of shareholders wealth. 4. Uncertainty about the future of the organization which is at the brink of going bankrupt anytime. 5. Incompetent leadership team awarding out of term, exceptional promotions to their own selected few. 6. No learning or development. No spending on skill development.

1. Work-life balance is very bad in Kolkata office. There are some senior Project leads (not all) who care about the hours juniors are working rather than the quality output they are giving. They literally track the time period once their team members are not available at their desk. Office timing: 9:30 am - 6 pm. But, here working till 8 pm means you have worked, but if you leave from office within 6 - 6:30 pm, it means you haven't done anything, doesn't matter what your entry time is (9:30 or, 9 or, 9:45 or, 10 or, 8:45 pm). Only you need to show off. 2. Company culture is also poor. Seniors make rules and don't follow any of it. I felt very disturbed while working in a specific project. The team members were not supportive and they were very much prone to complaining each other instead of building trust. 3. Lack of flexibility in work.

No focus on skill development and personal development.

Huge workload allows you to get accustomed with working under pressure. You will be getting a good exposure to foreign codes and standards. Training is basically OJT which is somewhat better than formal training as it allows you to apply your learnings in real time which also develops your confidence. Project leads are mostly helpful they will really help you to develop your concepts and they themselves are also very knowledgeable. In case of any conceptual misunderstanding, you can ask anyone to get it cleared as almost everyone around you have an experience of at least 10 years which also implies that you will mostly be working with experienced employees, though Wood is currently increasing its graduate intake but the ratio is bare minimum. And last but not the least projects are mostly international and working on them really makes you fit for international competition.
