For ductile material stress is directly proportional to straine upto elastic limit. (Material will springs backs to its original shape under this limit ) further increasing the stress the material will deforme plastically and yielding will starts upto the maximum strength of the material. If further stress increase ,material will get fracture.

For brittle material .the material will get fracture without showing any plastic deformation .when it reach to maximum strength.
