CMRL undertakes third testing and trial of ‘downline’ from Porur to Poonamallee bypass metro station
- CMRL has conducted its third testing and trial on the 'downline' from Porur to Poonamallee bypass metro station, following earlier trials on the 'up' line of the section.
- The completion of the 'downline' enables trials in both tracks to proceed as planned. Chennai Metro Rail Ltd is set to acquire 32 driverless 3-car UTO trains from Alstom.
- The 10 km viaduct section runs from Porur Junction Metro Station to Poonamalle Bypass Metro Station, connecting with Poonamalle Metro Depot. Testing and trials will be coordinated from Poonamalle Metro Depot.
- The Poonamaallee Bypass station's Auxiliary Substation was successfully charged via a 33kV power supply cable from Poonamallee Receiving substation at Poonamallee Depot. CMRL will conduct various tests and trials in Stage 1 for passenger safety and comfort.

- The contract also includes the construction of a ₹567-crore multimodal complex at Broadway by Chennai Metro JV as part of the project.
