Its 50/50 joint venture with Cooper Industries -- Apex Tools -- makes and markets power and mechanics' hand tools and wireless technologies. Danaher operates in about 50 countries, but it makes more than half its revenues in the US. The two Rales brothers, Steven (board chairman) and Mitchell (executive committee chairman), together own more than 17% of the company.
