Level state or hydra step is the alternative to sight glass fitted on the boiler drum. Hydrastep consists of a number of electrodes installed in a water column attached to the boiler.
The electrodes are fixed above and below the water column and variations in the resistance due to water level change identify the water and steam level. It works on the principle of resistivity.
The discrimination between water and steam is based on proe resistance change. If the resistance value is below 100K, then it depicts the water percentage, and if over 100K then it represents the steam percentage. The 4-20mA feedback is sent to the AI lock of DCS for remote monitoring in the control room.
