- The Centre has amended SEZ rules to attract investments in semiconductors and electronics manufacturing by promoting pioneering investments and boosting manufacturing in high-technology sectors.
- Reforms include reduction in minimum contiguous land area requirement for SEZs dedicated to semiconductor and electronics component manufacturing, relaxation of condition for encumbrance-free SEZ land, and inclusion of goods received and supplied on a free-of-cost basis in NFE calculations.
- SEZ units in these sectors are now allowed to supply domestically into the Domestic Tariff Area after payment of applicable duties, aiming to boost high-tech manufacturing, semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem growth, and creation of high-skilled jobs.
