The roots of PIONEER date back to the 1920s during the British era, when Late Seth Gajanand Khaitan, originating from Rajasthan, settled in Kolkata, being attracted by the opportunities for enterprise that the city offered. The journey from being one of the oldest trading houses in Kolkata to a diversified conglomerate started in 1950 under the able leadership of Late Shri Ratanlal Khaitan, the son of the founder. The group started manufacturing quality industrial chemicals for Jute, Textile, Rubber, etc. For the next three decades, he consolidated the business and also brought innovations and excellence into the operations with strict adherence to moral values and business ethics. He also envisaged the present business domain of the group. This successful entrepreneurial tradition found its true culmination when two of his sons, Rajkumar Khaitan and Ravindra Khaitan, joined the family business in the chemical industry, after completion of their graduation in commerce in the mid-1980s, where they learnt their first lesson of quality management. With an entrepreneurial vision coupled with lofty ambitions and hard work, both of them diversified the family business into real estate consultation in May 1986 with the formation of Pioneer Property Management Ltd.
