Salary talks: Disclose unofficial variable pay?
Hey folks,
I'm at a company with a fixed salary + a 'profit-sharing' component, but it's not on paper.
Got some questions:
✅ When job hunting, should I only share my fixed salary with recruiters, or include the unofficial variable part?
✅ Do companies hike only the fixed salary or the total comp (including variable)?
✅ Anyone been promised variable pay verbally but not in writing? How did you handle it when negotiating with future employers?
Really appreciate any advice on navigating this during interviews & salary talks!

only mention fixed salary while sharing CTC, esp if variable isn’t on paper. most companies hike based on fixed, not verbal comps and yeah, always ask new offers to put everything in writing, verbal promises don’t mean much during payroll

Happened with me too! I was promised a quarterly bonus but never received it for 3 quarters straight. every time I asked, it was company’s performance wasn’t up to the mark. Now I never count anything that’s not on paper. lesson learned.

I'd say jst stick to disclosing only your fixed ctc when talking to recruiters.
