Sales

Why is Sales so hyped in India when it’s not what it seems?
Big incentives? Maybe. But even bigger burnout.
People say, “Sales is the fastest way to grow!” or “Incentives are insane!” But if it's that great Why are sales roles always hiring? Why do most people leave within a year?
From what I’ve seen, reality hits different
Unrealistic targets & daily reporting
Pointless field visits
Long hours, weekend calls, zero boundaries
Shouting managers is equal to motivation
Unlimited incentives”? Hidden behind insane KPIs no one warns you abt
People often say, even today’s CEOs started in sales!
Sure but that doesn’t mean everyone should go through a system built on stress and zero work-life balance.
Truth is, many sales roles are just high churn.
Freshers are sold the dream fast money, fast growth but end up drained and undervalued.
Not saying all sales jobs are bad. Some B2B roles with good culture can be solid. But for most? You need to ask the right questions before jumping in. What’s been your experience too negative, or painfully real?

Without sales a company makes nothing. It's a shitty thankless job and that's why it's high risk high reward. we also live in a world were a lot of companies have a literal business model of shitty and unethical sales tactics. It's glorified because hr has to get people to enter the door.

As someone who did FMCG sales for 9 months it felt like I aged 5 years. Targets + travel + “sir why no order?” calls at 10 PM = constant anxiety. Salary was okay, soul was gone.

Whatever you wrote is absolutely true. Sales looks lucrative from the outside but you'll realise what it really is once you're into it.

it's better if you sell a service than a product really?
I've often heard this the other way around. Like, if you're in a tech company, it's better to go sell for a product one (like salesforce) instead of a Infosys of Wipro (service company).

[kaamsekaam](username) Selling a service is more like selling yourself, your team's capabilities, your clients count on you, and they are more likely to convert.

Sales is glorified? Buddy sales is the least preferred field in top mba colleges. Noone aspires to be salesman.

Brother I agree with you. I have been in a similar situation.
Lots of pressure to achieve the target. But customers are not interested, so sales didn't happen, plus customers Don't have money to buy. Market is already saturated with competitor product. So I had to leave that Job. The superior sold me a dream that one can achieve High income in sales jobs.
