Unlike POP3, IMAP does not download emails; it keeps them on the server.
IMAP supports folder management, allowing users to organize emails into different folders.
Example: A user can read an email on their phone and it will still be marked as unread on their laptop.
IMAP uses ports 143 (unencrypted) and 993 (encrypted) for communication.
