The OSI model is a conceptual model that describes how data is transmitted over a network.

The OSI model has 7 layers: Physical, Data Link, Network, Transport, Session, Presentation, and Application.
Each layer has a specific function and communicates with the layers above and below it.
The Physical layer deals with the physical transmission of data, while the Application layer deals with user interfaces and application-level protocols.
An example of a protocol that operates at the Transport layer is TCP (Transmission Control Protocol).
The OSI model is used as a reference model for network communication and helps ensure interoperability between different systems.

If i am talk about subnet mask so The Purpose of subnet mask identify which Part of network part and which part of Host part. Subnet mask is 32 bit number where all bit of network part are represent 1 s and while the other hand all bit of host part are represent as 0 . For example - class c network .192.168 255.10.0 and subnet mask is 255,255,255,0. There are many differences between in ip4 and Ip 6 . Here we talk to about IP4 which is stand for internet protocol version 4. it was interduce in1981 and first deployed version in 1982 for production on SETNET. that is 32 bit which have to expressed by decimal notation .it is represented by 4 number and separate from . range of 0 to 255.which have to be converted 0 to 1 to understood by the computer. while IPV6 is stand for internet protocol version 6 .It was interduce in 1995 by internet Engineering task force .Ip version 6 is better way as a compare of ip4 in term of complexity and efficiency. ipv6 is also know as hexadecimal number and denoted by colon : can be written as 128 bits of 0s and 1s.
