Medical Social Worker - Blood Bank

Responsibilities:

• Donor Recruitment and Retention:Identify and recruit potential donors, and work to retain current donors through education and support.
• Counselling:Provide pre-donation counseling to reduce anxiety and address concerns, as well as post-donation counseling about care and potential side effects.
• Medical Screening Support:Assist with medical screening of donors, identifying high-risk behaviors and maintaining confidentiality.
• TTI (HIV/HBV/HCV/Syphilis) Management:Provide counseling and support to donors who test positive for TTI, including referrals to appropriate healthcare resources.
• Patient Advocacy:Advocate for patients' rights and access to blood transfusions, ensuring they receive appropriate and timely care.
• Collaboration:Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
• Education:Educate both donors and patients about blood donation, transfusion therapy, and related health information.
• Feedback Collection:Collect donor feedback to improve the donation experience.
• Community Outreach:Organize and participate in blood donation camps and community outreach programs.
• Financial Assistance:Help patients and their families understand and navigate financial resources for blood transfusions, if applicable.

Qualifications:

• MSW/M.Sc. in Sociology or Psychology: A master's degree in social work or a related field is generally required.
• Experience: Minimum 6 months experience in a licensed blood center is often preferred.
• Soft Skills: Empathy, communication, problem-solving, and cultural sensitivity are essential.
• Specific Skills: Knowledge of blood transfusion practices, medical terminology, and donor screening procedures is beneficial.
