Database Architect - MySQL (10-12 yrs)

Role Overview :

We are looking for an experienced and visionary Database Architect with over 10 years of experience to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of highly performant, scalable, and secure transactional database systems. As a Database Architect, you will work closely with software engineering, DevOps, and business teams to craft data solutions that drive efficient transactional workflows and support critical business operations. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining data integrity, optimizing performance under heavy workloads, and future-proofing our database infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities :

- Lead the architecture and implementation of robust transactional database systems that support large-scale, mission-critical business processes. Create data models and schemas optimized for performance, scalability, and maintainability.

- Analyze and tune database systems for high-throughput transactional workloads. Develop indexing strategies, query optimizations, and partitioning schemes to enhance speed and responsiveness.

- Define and enforce database standards, best practices, and governance policies to ensure consistency, quality, and security of data assets.

- Work closely with application developers, DevOps, and data engineers to integrate database solutions seamlessly into applications and cloud environments, ensuring smooth data flows and efficient access patterns.

- Proactively monitor database performance and availability. Troubleshoot issues related to query performance, deadlocks, locking contention, and other anomalies. Implement automated alerting and health checks.

- Enforce security best practices around access control, encryption, and auditing to protect sensitive data. Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS) and internal policies.

- Forecast database growth and workload changes to plan for scaling and capacity expansion. Develop and test disaster recovery and backup strategies to ensure business continuity.

- Maintain thorough documentation of database designs, configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Mentor junior team members and share knowledge across teams.

Required Skills and Qualifications :

Experience :

- 10+ years of experience working with transactional database systems in complex, enterprise-grade environments.

- Hands-on expertise in designing and managing relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar.

Technical Skills :

- Strong proficiency in data modeling, normalization, and schema design.

- Deep understanding of query optimization, indexing strategies, stored procedures, and triggers.

- Skilled in database performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting under high-volume transactional workloads.

- Knowledge of database security practices including encryption, access controls, and audit trails.

- Experience with cloud database platforms like AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or Google Cloud SQL.
