Chief Business Officer (CBO)
Reports to: CEO
Direct Reports: VP Business Development, VP Institutional Marketing
Role Overview:
As the CBO, you'll spearhead business strategy and drive sustainable growth across retail, institutional, and franchise channels. Your role is pivotal in establishing processes, systems, and partnerships and empowering teams to exceed targets while enhancing brand equity.
Key Accountabilities:
Growth & Revenue Management:
- Set and meet segmented revenue goals (franchise, region, retail, institutional).
- Expand franchise network and institutional client base.
- Launch targeted outreach campaigns (emailers, events) for franchise/client acquisition.
- Secure brand presence via speaking slots, sponsorships, and industry engagement.
- Identify and onboard channel partners, major buyers, intermediaries executing structured networking plans.
Strategic Infrastructure & Talent:
- Design and manage MIS for ongoing target monitoring and performance tracking.
- Build institutional knowledge systems to reduce reliance on individuals.
- Lead talent acquisition, retention, and development across business development functions.
- Organize franchise and focus-group meetings to foster motivation, resolve issues, and align priorities.
Supervisory & Market Oversight:
- Monitor and benchmark regional, franchise, and product performance against competitors.
- Track market dynamics pricing, demand, global trends and inform strategic shifts.
- Collaborate with R&D to design and launch new franchise or product modules.
- Gather insights from BD efforts to guide product positioning and innovation.
- Ensure market feedback drives iterative product and service enhancements.
- Oversee market research, competitive analysis, and skill-building initiatives.
Execution & Operational Excellence:
- Identify and act upon market/client needs and growth opportunities.
- Upgrade legacy systems and processes to drive efficiency.
- Architect and deploy marketing and brand positioning strategies.
- Develop regionally and nationally scaled growth initiatives.
- Cultivate relationships with national accounts and participate in industry forums.
- Align BD strategies by reviewing performance data and adapting tactics regularly.
- Lead presence at trade events, seminars, and conferences to boost visibility and drive growth.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Partner with Corporate Communications to deliver impactful events, brand campaigns, and messaging.
- Liaise with Product teams to provide market feedback and support development cycles.
- Work closely with Customer Success, Ops, and Finance to optimize lead gen, handle client issues, and deploy best practices.
Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Attainment of segmented revenue and sales targets
- Growth in franchise numbers and institutional client acquisitions
- ROI and engagement from campaigns, events, and outreach
- Franchise satisfaction, retention, and advocacy
- Efficiency and cost-effectiveness in BD and marketing
- Team growth: target achievement, training uptake, and institutional learning
Qualifications & Expertise:
- MBA or equivalent in Business, Marketing, or Management
- 10+ years in senior-level business development, sales, or marketing leadership experience in franchise or institutional sectors essential.
