Java Production Support Engineer - Incident Management (4-6 yrs)

Job Description :

Key Responsibilities :

Incident Management & Troubleshooting :

- Provide Level 2/3 production support for complex Java applications, ensuring timely resolution of incidents and minimal impact on business operations.

- Perform in-depth problem-solving in a production environment, including observing system patterns, analyzing logs, and identifying root causes of issues.

- Quickly diagnose and resolve critical production issues, often under pressure, by leveraging strong Core Java knowledge and debugging skills.

Root Cause Analysis & Problem Management :

- Conduct thorough root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring incidents, identifying underlying systemic issues.

- Suggest and implement ideas and permanent solutions to prevent future occurrences, collaborating closely with application development teams.

- Contribute to the knowledge base by documenting troubleshooting steps, known issues, and resolutions.

Monitoring & Alerting :

- Monitor application health, performance, and availability using various monitoring tools.

- Respond to alerts and proactively identify potential issues before they impact users.

Database Interaction :

- Write and execute complex SQL or PL/SQL queries for data analysis, investigation, and manipulation to support incident resolution and problem management.

- Understand database schemas and data relationships relevant to the supported applications.

System Administration & Scripting :

- Utilize Unix commands and write robust Shell scripts (or Perl/Python) for automation of operational tasks, log analysis, data extraction, and system health checks.

- Manage application deployments, configuration changes, and system restarts in production and non production environments.

Collaboration & Communication :

- Communicate effectively with application development teams, QA, business users, and senior stakeholders to articulate the technical and functional aspects of production problems.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive solutions and implement preventative measures.

- Provide clear and concise status updates on ongoing incidents and problems.

Performance Optimization :

- Identify performance bottlenecks within Java applications and suggest optimizations for code, database queries, or infrastructure.

Required Qualifications :

- Experience : 4-6 years of dedicated experience as a Java Production Support Engineer or in a similar role.

- Strong proficiency and hands-on experience with Core Java concepts, including multithreading, collections, JVM, garbage collection, and object-oriented programming (OOP) principles.

- Expertise in SQL or PL/SQL, with the ability to write and optimize complex queries for data analysis and troubleshooting in an RDBMS environment.

- Proficiency in Unix/Linux commands.

- Strong experience in Shell scripting (or Perl/Python) for automation and operational tasks.

- Certifications : OCJP (Oracle Certified Java Programmer) certification is mandatory.

- Solid understanding of Computer Science concepts, particularly Data Structures, and their practical application in real-world use cases.

- Problem-Solving : Proven ability to analyze complex technical problems, identify root causes, and propose effective solutions in a production environment.

- Communication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical

and functional aspects of issues clearly to diverse audiences, including senior stakeholders.

- Analytical Skills : Strong analytical thinking and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
