Given that it's skewed towards middle aged crowd, it kind of is like a paralytic yet comfortable atmosphere. Very few people at that age have that drive, not celebrating it, but they have more things to think about and hence not as ambitious as the young crowd. Many people have transitioned from non tech to tech roles, where their business knowledge does add value but the learning curve gets a little bit off because of the time they'll take to catch up and the influx of already aware, young technical people.
