A DM (Doctor of Medicine) pulmonologist specializes in diagnosing and treating respiratory and pulmonary disorders. Here are the key roles and responsibilities:
- Patient Evaluation: Conduct thorough assessments of patients with respiratory issues, including reviewing medical histories and performing physical examinations.
- Diagnosis: Use diagnostic tools like chest X-rays, CT scans, pulmonary function tests, and bronchoscopy to identify conditions such as asthma, COPD, pneumonia, and lung cancer.
- Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnoses, which may include medications, therapies, or lifestyle changes.
- Management of Chronic Conditions: Monitor and manage chronic respiratory diseases, ensuring patients adhere to treatment regimens and adjust plans as necessary.
- Patient Education: Educate patients and families about respiratory diseases, treatment options, and self-management strategies.
