Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) Spiral Pipe Manufacturing MP

About the Role

Flowman Metrix is setting up an in-house X-Ray NDT facility for real-time inspection of spiral weld joints in large-diameter mild steel pipes. We are seeking an experienced and certified Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to lead the radiation compliance program, guide us in selecting the right technology, and assist in finalizing the layout, tunnel design, and equipment flow.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the designated RSO and ensure full AERB compliance for the installation and operation of the X-Ray testing unit
• Collaborate with plant leadership, consultants, and civil engineers to finalize the NDT room layout, including:
• Shielding wall design
• Pipe movement pathways (tunnel or conveyor)
• Control rooms and observation zones
• Drive layout planning for safe and efficient inspection flow, accounting for pipe diameter, weight, handling equipment, and access protocols
• Evaluate and recommend cutting-edge NDT technologies specific to spiral weld inspection:
• Real-time digital radiography (DR) systems
• Crawler-type X-Ray inspection units
• Automated defect recognition (ADR) systems
• Identify and recommend accessories, shielding material, film/digital systems, and safety tools
• Supervise equipment procurement, installation, and calibration along with the project team
• Define and enforce radiation safety procedures, including personal monitoring, emergency response, and signage protocols
• Train NDT and QA personnel in radiographic testing procedures, film evaluation, digital interpretation, and safety best practices
• Maintain detailed statutory records and manage liaison with AERB, BARC, and other regulatory bodies
• Support audit readiness, license renewals, and regular safety drills

Qualifications & Experience

• Certified RSO as per AERB norms with valid credentials - Mandatory
• Minimum 5 years of experience in radiographic testing for large-diameter pipe welds or similar heavy fabrication
• Strong understanding of spiral weld defect types and interpretation standards (API 5L, ISO 10893, etc.)
• Exposure to pipe movement systems in NDT tunnels (overhead rail, roller beds, crawler-assisted inspection)
• Sound knowledge of modern NDT tools and automation systems
• Ability to collaborate with civil/mechanical design teams and project engineers
