No Salary Discussion in My Appraisal — What’s Your Experience?
In my appraisal meeting, they didn’t ask or discuss my expectations about my salary or hike percentage. The entire discussion was only about feedback and performance review. After the meeting, I asked why they didn’t allow me to share my expectations or reveal my hike numbers. They told me that the hike numbers would be decided only by the owner and then they would inform me. I feel an appraisal meeting should include open discussion about both performance and future expectations. What are your thoughts? Does this happen in your company too?

This place is just okay, that's about it - "bit" flexible timings, sat-sun off, colleagues are mostly fine (but every team will obviously have some jokers who'll be manager's favourite for being dumb), environment is overall good. There's no work from home policy but if you deal with Pearson US, Canada, Australia, that is anywhere except India, then you "may" have work from home facility and lot more flexibility in the timings because of time zones. There's nothing extraordinary here except it's a brand so good for your resume, which is the only reason people stick for some years here.

Politics, biasness...like I said, this place is no different. Salary/appraisals/bonus will never be satisfactory to anyone anywhere but for my team it's not that bad - can't say how it's for the entire company. My only suggestion is to know your true value and ask accordingly. If you think you deserve, for instance, 30k ask for 50k and don't settle for less than 45k. HR's job is to be company's cry baby and fake that they don't have the budget which is a lie. I can say that because I'm at a managerial level and we increase budget to even 70% if we've the right candidate. Never settle for less, do your research and ask NOT what YOU think is right but what your research says is right.

Salary and promotions. 1. The company doesn't offer good salaries at all. 2. No proper goal setting process is closely watched to enable growth/promotions within the organization.

I started as a fresher, at first even I had my b.ed degree they appointed me as a substitute teacher on the other hand the one those who doesn't even had any degrees were teaching higher grades. Job security was not good work culture was okay. Overall if you want to please the 'parents' then this school is a perfect place for you. Although I learnt many things it was a wonderful experience for me (on learning side) but a terrible workplace.

In my carrier of about 11 Years at Pearson, 9 years have really been superb overall, I even got the opportunity to attend to Pearson annual forum at New York in the year 2009. With my change to Pearson US office and surprisingly a junior staff and more to that he was so very immature as people manager, I brought in to the attention of several senior Management team members including head of compliance. I tolerated it to about a year showing my respect to what Pearson did for me calling me to the US. However, lately when my Manager started to behave so bad even going until a level where he complained that hr has something against me on my behaviour, I managed to set a meeting with HR Manager Scott and it was proved in that meeting that My manager lied. Now that I am out, I wanted to share so that this does not happen to next person.
