Sohar Aluminium is one of the good Smelter in GCC. Sohar aluminium provides a excellent platform to grow, I have been trained , learned and get expertise in new skill development and become expert in the field of Maintenance/ operation/ EHS/ Financial Management. I had a opportunity to serve in the local community and been recognized, Colleagues are combination of both, Locals are very ambitious . I had an opportunity to innovate many technical development. Rio Tinto support is excellent. In mid and high level politics are exist , Specially expats are sometimes exposed to that. Work environment is tough , in mid summer temperature reaches up to 60 degree Centigrade at shop floor, work culture also very tough need some time for the new comer. Always need to be work hard some times work life balance is compromised. Very strict discipline.

Dislikes

Not much work life balance and the environment. The most I disliked about the politics at the top and mid level management.

A typical day at Sohar aluminium, Morning at 7:30 we start with safe start meeting, discuss about the incident and corrective actions. Then discuss about the preventive, unplanned and proactive jobs. set the priority and do the risk analysis as per the job undertaken. At 9:00 clock we have a management meeting ( lean) discuss about the EHS action of the day , Then shortly discuss about the job we will undertake, provide feedback. Set the production target. 10:00 hrs check all the e-mails. set the priority. 11:00 -12:00 check for the budget, ordering high value materials discuss with planners about the scheduling and manpower availability.12:00- 13:00 lunch break. 13:00- 14:00 present the taproot EHS investigation and all ex-co members agreed and the corrective action.14:00-1500 meeting with production and planning for the next 4 shift . 15:00-19:00 shop floor for the EHS inspection, Job quality inspection, unplanned maintenance. 17:00- 18:00 return back office provide feedback .

1. Some of the top management take hasty decisions 2. Co-workers are generally good 3.Excellent training facilities 4. New system introduction 5. HR is excellent 6. Financially strong 7. Job security is less for the expats 8. Career growth is almost negligible for the Expat 9. Excellent EHS implementations 10. technological innovations
