The day I found out my colleague earns 30% more for the same role
It was an accidental slip. A teammate mentioned her CTC while we were chatting casually. Same designation, same team, joined after me but her salary was almost 30% more. My stomach dropped. I spent days debating whether to bring it up. I didn’t want to come off as insecure or difficult. But I also couldn’t un-know what I knew. Eventually, I had an honest, data-backed conversation with my manager. Turns out, I was right and they revised my pay. It wasn’t easy, but it taught me this: silence doesn’t protect you. Companies run on numbers. If you don’t negotiate, you leave money on the table. Have you ever been in a similar spot? How did you navigate it?

The work culture is pathetic with uneven share of responsibility (for the same salary) among peers. No control of management over non-Executive staff, they are mostly controlled by unions and this leads to unnecessary pressure on Executives to get the jobs done somehow.

Nepotism, promotion of executives beyond GM is on the basis of your line up, and many other unwanted means. Quality, dedication, sincerity, knowledge are secondary parameters. After retirement attitude to them is very painful. Idiotic and nasty. No program exists for utilising the qualities of retired executives, unless you have connections to higher authorities. Medical facilities is satisfactory but for referral to better hospitals need your connection to higher ups doctors. Anomalies exists in pay revision to retired executives , exceptional principle comparing to other public sector units. Etc.

Clearing one of toughest exams GATE and joining SAIL through GATE is not worth it. Management should know that no one studies this hard to get these type of roles in an adverse industry and should plan accordingly, Hectic Rotational Shifts, Management is old and still struck with 80s Mindset, No respect for executive officers, Doesn't value your education and experience, Challenging workplace, sometimes difficult to take leave on your wish, In comparison to other Maharatna PSUs the facilities and allowances are joke, same salary for someone who sits in the office whole day and same for someone who works hard in heat, dust and noisy shop floor i.e. no hardship allowances unlike other PSUs, weekoff duration varies from 24 hrs to 40hrs while in general shift you can get 40hr of weekly off
