Job Description : Oracle DBA (Database Administrator)-
Overview :
An Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing, maintaining, and securing Oracle databases to ensure high availability, performance, and data integrity. As an Oracle DBA, you will play a key role in the installation, configuration, tuning, backup, recovery, and troubleshooting of Oracle databases in a variety of production, development, and test environments. You will be working closely with system administrators, developers, and other technical teams to ensure the Oracle databases meet the company's business needs and performance requirements.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Database Installation & Configuration :
- Install and configure Oracle Database software and Oracle-related components.
- Create and manage Oracle databases, ensuring that they meet the company's security and performance standards.
- Apply Oracle patches and upgrades in accordance with company policies and guidelines.
2. Performance Monitoring & Tuning :
- Monitor database performance using various Oracle diagnostic tools such as AWR, ASH, and Oracle Enterprise Manager.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and optimize database performance by tuning SQL queries, indexing, and adjusting configuration parameters.
- Work closely with development teams to ensure the database is optimized for application performance.
3. Backup & Recovery :
- Design, implement, and maintain backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Perform regular database backups and recovery drills to validate backup and recovery procedures.
- Implement RMAN (Recovery Manager) for backup and recovery tasks to streamline and automate the process.
4. Security & User Management :
- Set up and maintain Oracle security policies, including user access control, auditing, and encryption.
- Implement roles and permissions to ensure that only authorized users have access to sensitive data.
- Monitor and audit database activities to ensure compliance with internal and external security regulations.
5. Data Migration & Replication :
- Lead efforts for data migration and replication between different environments and platforms.
- Work with Data Guard, GoldenGate, or other replication technologies to ensure high availability and disaster recovery.
- Ensure that databases are properly replicated for fault tolerance, scaling, and business continuity.
6. Database Upgrades & Patching :
- Plan and implement upgrades and patches for Oracle databases to ensure the systems are up to date and free of vulnerabilities.
- Test and validate patches in development and staging environments before applying them to production.
7. Troubleshooting & Incident Management :
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve database-related issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Work with other IT teams to resolve incidents related to networking, storage, and server resources impacting database performance.
- Document known issues, resolutions, and troubleshooting procedures to assist the team with future issues.
8. Collaboration & Documentation :
- Collaborate with developers to ensure that database designs and queries align with best practices for efficiency and scalability.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation on database configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Provide guidance and support to junior DBAs and other technical staff as required.
Skills & Qualifications :
Technical Expertise :
- Strong proficiency in Oracle Database architecture, administration, and performance tuning.
- Proficiency with Oracle tools such as SQL\-Plus, RMAN, Oracle Data Guard, Oracle Enterprise Manager, and Oracle GoldenGate.
- Knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems and scripting languages like Shell or Perl.
Experience :
- 3+ years of hands-on experience as an Oracle DBA in a production environment.
- Experience in Oracle database versions 11g, 12c, 18c, or 19c.
- Proven track record of successful database migrations, upgrades, and disaster recovery planning.
Certifications :
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or similar certifications preferred.
- Additional certifications in cloud-based technologies (e.g., Oracle Cloud, AWS, or Azure) would be an advantage.
Key Soft Skills :
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with both technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Working Conditions :
The Oracle DBA may be required to participate in on-call rotations for after-hours support, system monitoring, and emergency response. Flexibility with working hours is expected, especially during system upgrades, patches, and incident resolutions.
