Job Overview :

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer with strong expertise in COBOL, DB2, JCL, and IMS (DB/DC) to join our team in Chennai. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in the design, development, maintenance, and enhancement of enterprise-level mainframe applications. You will collaborate with business analysts, QA testers, and other developers to ensure systems are scalable, robust, and meet complex business needs.

Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, and maintain high-quality mainframe applications using COBOL, DB2, and JCL.

- Work extensively with IMS DB (Database) and/or IMS DC (Data Communication) for online and batch processing.

- Develop, test, and debug new programs and modify existing ones to meet evolving business requirements.

- Analyze production issues, perform root cause analysis, and provide timely resolutions for system abends and performance problems.

- Utilize mainframe utilities and tools proficiently for debugging, testing, and system analysis.

- Collaborate with business analysts to understand functional requirements and translate them into technical designs.

- Partner with QA testers to ensure thorough testing and validation of developed solutions.

- Contribute to the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for mainframe applications, from design to deployment and support.

- Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards, best practices, and system performance.

- Maintain and enhance existing mainframe applications, ensuring system stability and reliability.

- Manage code effectively using mainframe code management tools like Changeman or Endevor.

- Track development progress and manage tasks using tools like JIRA within a collaborative development team.

- Adhere to documentation best practices, creating and maintaining clear technical specifications and support documents.

Required Skills & Experience :

- 5+ years of hands-on experience in COBOL, DB2, and JCL development.

- Proven experience working with IMS DB and/or IMS DC.

- Strong understanding of Mainframe Systems architecture and concepts of batch/online processing.

- Familiarity with Changeman, Endevor, or similar mainframe code management tools.

- Proficient in analyzing abends and debugging using mainframe utilities (e.g., File-Aid, Abend-Aid, Xpediter).

- Experience using JIRA and working within a collaborative development team.

- Good understanding of SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle) and documentation best practices.

- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related fieldor equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Skills :

- Experience with other mainframe tools (CICS, VSAM, MVS).

- Knowledge of Agile methodologies in a mainframe context.

- Experience with data migration on mainframe systems.

- Familiarity with scheduling tools (TWS, CA-7).
