RPG Engineer - Integrated Language Environment (5-10 yrs)

Required Skills:

- Extensive experience in RPG programming (RPG IV, ILE RPG): Proven ability to design, develop, code, test, and debug complex RPG applications.

- Strong working knowledge of CL (Control Language): Ability to write and maintain CL programs for system control, job scheduling, and automation.

- Proficiency in DB2 database: Solid understanding of DB2 database concepts, SQL, and experience in database design, querying, and maintenance on the IBM iSeries.

- Experience with embedded SQL in RPG: Ability to effectively integrate SQL statements within RPG programs to access and manipulate DB2 data.

- Solid understanding of IBM iSeries (AS/400) operating system: Familiarity with iSeries commands, job management, security concepts, and system utilities.

- Experience in analyzing and troubleshooting RPG application issues: Proven ability to diagnose and resolve production problems, performance bottlenecks, and system errors.

- Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC): Experience working within structured development methodologies.

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills: Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into efficient technical solutions.

- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills: Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Responsibilities :

- Design, develop, code, test, and implement new and enhanced RPG applications on the IBM iSeries platform.

- Maintain and support existing RPG applications, including bug fixing and performance tuning.

- Write and maintain CL programs for system automation and control.

- Develop and execute SQL queries and stored procedures to interact with the DB2 database.

- Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and program logic.

- Collaborate with business analysts and other IT team members to understand user needs and propose solutions.

- Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to standards.

- Troubleshoot and resolve application and system issues in a timely manner.

- Perform system analysis and recommend improvements to existing applications and processes.

- Create and maintain technical documentation for RPG programs and system changes.

- Participate in system upgrades and migrations on the IBM iSeries platform.

- Stay up-to-date with relevant IBM iSeries technologies and best practices.

Preferred Skills :

- Experience with modernizing RPG applications.

- Familiarity with WebSphere Development Studio Client (WDSC) or Rational Developer for i (RDi).

- Experience with integrating RPG applications with web services or other platforms.

- Knowledge of security concepts and implementation on the IBM iSeries.

- Experience with version control systems on the IBM iSeries.

- Exposure to other programming languages relevant to the IBM iSeries (i.e., Java, PHP).

- Understanding of ITIL framework
