DGM / Senior Manager - Mining (Mauritania - Northwest Africa)

Role Summary:

The Mining Engineer will be responsible for the planning, design, and execution of mining operations to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective extraction of Hematite Ore/ Stockpiles. This role will involve overseeing drilling, blasting, and excavation operations, while ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Mine Planning and Design:

• To develop and implement short-term and long-term mining plans for the hematite scram operations. (Insitu Ore & Stockpiles)
• To design and optimize mine layouts, drill patterns, and excavation sequences.
• To perform Pit Design, Optimization and assess and capable to Validate Mine Reserve.
• To collaborate with Mine Geologists to define Mine boundaries and develop resource recovery strategies.

Operations Management:

• Plan ROM Scheduling, Daily Fleet Management, ensure daily mining operations to ensure daily Production Targets and adherence to production & Plan schedules.
• To coordinate drilling, blasting, excavation, and hauling activities to achieve project goals.
• To monitor equipment performance and productivity to ensure optimal efficiency.
• To implement cost-effective mining strategies and optimize resource usage.

Safety and Compliance:

• To ensure compliance with all safety standards, regulations, and company policies during mining operations. Follow MSHA rules.
• To perform risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to ensure worker safety.
• To conduct regular safety inspections and training for mine staff.
• To oversee the implementation of environmental control measures to minimize the impact of mining activities.

Budget and Resource Management:

• To assist in developing and managing budgets for mining operations.
• To control and monitor costs related to equipment, labor, and materials.
• To ensure the availability of appropriate resources, including labor, machinery, and materials.

Data Collection and Reporting:

• Analyse operational data to assess the performance of mining processes.
• Detailed reports on production rates, ore quality, and operational efficiency.
• To provide regular updates to the project management team regarding progress, challenges, and achievements.

Equipment and Technology Utilization:

• Manage the use of appropriate mining equipment, including drills, trucks, loaders, and excavators.
• To implement technology solutions to improve mining efficiency, safety, and data management.

Stakeholder Engagement:

• To liaise with stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, contractors, and suppliers.
• To coordinate with the logistics team to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of materials and equipment.
• To engage with local communities to ensure compliance with social responsibility practices and maintain positive relationships.

Preferred candidate profile

• Bachelors degree in mining engineering or a related field. A masters degree is a plus.
• 15 to 20 years of experience in the mining industry, with a focus on green field open-pit mining is required. Exposure to Iron Ore Mining Operations (International Exposure will be an advantage)
• Previous experience in Stockpile Mining Operations will be given preference.
• Strong knowledge of mine planning software (e.g. Vulcan, LEAP frog, Surpac, MineSight).
• Proficiency in Geological and engineering software.
• Understanding of hematite ore extraction techniques and related equipment.
• Knowledge of environmental and safety regulations within the mining industry.

Certifications:

• DGMS Qualified Mining Eng. Certificate (1st Class or 2nd Class) is must.
• International Membership such as AusIMM, SAIMM or CIM and any other Registered Professional Mining Engineer (preferred).
• Certifications in safety and environmental compliance are plus.
