10 hour workdays? Glad I quit Genpact
I’m just relieved I got out in time...I was with Genpact till last month. Genpact wants its employees to start working 10 hours a day 5 days a week...that's 50 hours weekly. And this isn't for a startup or leadership role. It's for freshers. Entry level roles with 10 hour shifts? are you serious? In 2025? When we’re talking about 4 day workweeks and burnout awareness? I’m not saying people shouldn’t work hard....we all do. But let’s stop pretending this is normal or productive. Longer hours don’t mean better output. In most cases, it just means more stress, more health issues, and faster exits. If you don’t trust your team to perform in 8 hours, maybe it’s not the employees who need training. Or 2 extra hours me koi kuch vaise bhi nahi ukhaad raha.

The increments and salary in general is very low and not as per industry standards. The company policy itself fosters micro-management even if the managers do not want to.

The salary is well below industry standards, and there’s clear pay disparity—people in the same role are paid differently without any justification. Micromanagement is extreme. I was assigned to a project led by an AVP who came across as friendly at first, but that didn’t last. Soon enough, he started interfering in employees' personal matters more than focusing on actual work. The managers and assistant managers working under him lacked professionalism. They seemed more interested in office gossip than team support. Instead of addressing real concerns, they favored those who constantly agreed with them. Merit and hard work were consistently ignored. There’s no HR presence in the Kolkata office, so the entire process is controlled by this management circle. Taking leave is unnecessarily complicated—you’re expected to share detailed plans. If you fall ill without advance notice, you lose your incentive. It’s rigid and lacks basic empathy. Work-from-home? Not an option for us. While other processes were allowed flexible work arrangements, this team insisted on work-from-office because the leadership preferred it that way, regardless of practicality or employee needs. It was even more disappointing to witness unprofessional behavior go unchecked. The AVP was often seen chewing tobacco-like substances on the floor, and one of the managers was known to arrive at the office in an unfit condition. No one addressed these issues, as the leadership team functioned more like a closed circle that protected its own, leaving employees without a voice. Unpaid overtime was the norm. When I resigned, they created hurdles to avoid paying the bonus I had worked hard for. The notice period was non-negotiable. As for employee engagement, events were organized using both employee contributions and company funds—yet the leadership took credit for everything. It was disheartening. Genpact Kolkata—this project in particular—was mentally exhausting. A lack of transparency, professionalism, and basic respect made it one of the most difficult experiences of my career. I would strongly advise others to think twice before joining.

...why they are not allowing WFH policy as NCR is not affordable for common people. 40%-50% of our salary is absorbed in accommodation and travelling in NCR.
