Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: Based on a cut off of 7.5

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: 5-7 minutes.Abstract topic, so open ended. Within logical boundaries you could be as creative as possible. The discussion went from  importance of binary system to philosophical bearings of "its all relative".  We had to sum up key points discussed towards the end of GD with positives and negatives of "life without zero".
Tips: Don'ts:Never look at the moderator while making your point, always engage your colleagues.Never interrupt other person midway, if the moderator is sensible enough, everyone would get chance to make their point.Dos:You don't always have to jump to start the GD, but try to put across your points articulately when your turn comes.Always bring a pen and Paper to GD (In case they don't provide) to note down your point of view on the topic. If possible, try to set the tone of the GD in the beginning by pointing out different aspects that can be discussed. (You might get brownie points for that)

Round: Case Study Interview
Experience: This round was lasted for around half an hour. I had interned in a Private Equity Research firm focusing on greentech. So they picked up a case from my resume. (This might happen, so be thorough with your internships). They will look for you ability to break-down a problem statement to smaller streams, multidimensional  approach and clarity in thought process.
Tips: 1. Reiterate the problem statement before you start solving the case 2. Think out loud with possible approaches, solutions, etc and pros and cons for each one3. Summarize at the end

Round: HR Interview
Experience: Lasted for almost an hour.Typical questions like1. Tell me something about yourself2. Why consulting and KPMG3. Long term goals and how KPMG fits in 4. 3 things you feel you need to improve upon
Tips: "Tell me something about yourself" sets the tone for this round so be prepared with a quick 2-3 minutes response to steer the discussion towards the points you want to highlight from your resume.
A few stress interview questions. Make sure you take your time to answer without panicking.

General Tips: 1. Be clear on what type of companies you want to apply (Core, Consult, Fin, etc) and why2. Don't fall pray to peer pressure. Company-candidate fit is the most important thing from long term perspective.
3. Be thorough with your resume and story line4. Practice HR questions with your wing mates
Skills: Problem Solving
College Name: IIT MADRAS
Motivation: I was interested working in consult to begin my career, as it gives you good exposure across companies, sectors, you get to interact with different kinds of people and yea you get to travel.
Funny Moments: One of the consultant who had come down for tech rounds interacted with me outside the room and we had a chat on Saarang and Cricket for a while. Helped me settle down quickly during the interview.

I appeared for an interview in Mar 2017.

Round: Test
Experience: Its a simple test to check your people skills, your personality and whether you are capable to handle difficult situations
Tips: Its very simple, no need to worry abt it. Everyone clears this one.

Round: Group Discussion
Experience: The GD took place on 12th feb and so the topic was very recent. Everybody had  abundant data and thus plenty of points to make. It was a well structured GD, 10 minutes to discuss and 5 minutes to individually conclude the topic. I made my first point pretty late which was a wrong thing to do as I was asked about this in my interview. Later on I was successful to put 3-4 distinct points and as I was 8th amongst 10 ppl I could structure my conclusion well.
Tips: 1. Please read about the recent topics in newspaper.2.Numbers aren't important they don't make much difference. 3. If you are  applying for marketing/sales job be presentable, improve your diction and grammar. 4.Make distinct points.
Duration: 15 minutes

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The HRs were very calm and poised, they gave me enough time to frame my answers. Overall it was a pleasant experience.
Tips: Be yourself and show that you need this job. Show that you come from a family which is supportive and that you are flexible when it comes to location.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: While applying to core companies I focused more on my projects and internships and on the other hand while applying to non-core companies I went through the company’s annual report and tried to analyse the kind of work the company was involved in and also the vision the company held and tried to arrive at a common ground keeping in mind the vision of the company and my interest while framing the resume.

Round: Test
Experience: Since I did not prepare for CAT it was slightly difficult for me to clear the written tests. I borrowed some books from my friends and practiced them thoroughly well. The tests are pretty simple which I realized later after giving these tests. The tests require basic mathematics knowledge and some speed. A person having prepared for CAT should have no problems in dealing with these tests.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: The interviewer was a graduate from IIT Delhi in civil engineering. He asked me some basic questions and told me exactly how Flipkart operates. He asked me to talk about myself. Then he inquired about my 3rd year internship, which I had done in IIT Delhi in the civil engineering department. I told him about the kind of work I did in my internship.
Next he asked me to state the reason for the switch from civil arena to software arena in spite of having done a number of projects and internships in civil sector. Further he asked me a few basic questions related to civil engineering like ‘Which is the largest column built in India till date’.
Lastly he asked me that if offered posting in Bangalore or further south which would I prefer. To this I replied saying that I would prefer a posting somewhere in north India. I believe that this is the primary reason why I squandered my chances of getting recruited in the company.
The company eventually recruited 7 candidates.
Tips: If you are a civil engineer you should have good knowledge about structural engineering because generally each and every company would ask technical questions to a civil engineer from this topic.

College Name: IIT ROORKEE
Motivation: Flipkart came for placements for the very first time. I had applied for the Management Trainee profile. They were looking for people who had dynamic profile and those who had good communications skills.

Interview Preparation Tips

Round: Resume Shortlist
Experience: The resume should not exceed two pages according to placement norms so I had to make sure that I write down all my extra-curricular and my academic achievements in a compact manner to ensure that all of them fit in my resume. There were 11 extra-curricular activities that I managed to pen down. I used only one resume for all the companies and only changed my areas of interest to make them compatible with the profile on offer. I also mentioned about my projects and internships.
Tips: A person may have diverse areas of interest but he has to ensure that not all should be mentioned in any company. Only a select few areas of interest, which are simpatico with the profile, have to be mentioned in the resume. You cannot mention structural engineering as an area of interest while applying in a company like Oracle.

Round: Test
Experience: The first round in Flipkart was the written test. It was similar to the CAT exam. There were sections like logical reasoning, verbal reasoning among others. There was another section in which we were given a series of statements and we had to identify the statement that was not in logic. This was a difficult section.

Round: HR Interview
Experience: I prepared for interviews only by asking some of my friends. Some of my friends had already appeared for interviews in certain companies during the recruitment season; it is from them that I learnt the kind of HR questions that are generally asked in interviews.I prepared sample answers to some of these questions.
For technical questions there were no such specific preparations, I ensured that I had all the basic concepts of civil engineering in mind before appearing for the interviews.

College Name: IIT ROORKEE
Motivation: Flipkart is an e-commerce giant in India and everybody knows about it. They were recruiting us for the post of Management Trainee. They required people with dynamic personality, good communication skills and those who were good in extracurricular activities as well as in academics. The profile required people to talk to vendors and manage warehouses and hence they required such a diverse background from the student.
